Active phishing scam - please avoid!
A friend of mine had tickets with SG for this coming weekend and decided to have call them to reconfirm. Had a complex itinerary with a connection on scoot. He got the helpline number off the internet -1 800 742 3333. The person who picked up - rather then answer his question about the transfer- informed him his ticket was not fully paid for. He explained that of course it was - had been booked months ago and he had a confirmation e - mail. She insisted it was only “ partially paid” and that he owed $900 per ticket due to a “ fare difference “. He refused to pay. The scammer then told him that if he didn’t pay immediately he would forfeit his tickets. He hung up at this point. A couple minutes later he had an email from SG confirming his tickets were cancelled. He called the same number again -9 times - and was given erratic answers.
I helped him rebook his flights - huge headache factor for him, plus cost.
We learnt of this scam today - had no clue this was happening. He has spoken to SG and they’re looking into this but haven’t offered any resolution yet. Their website has mention of this but perhaps does not have as much emphasis as it should. I’m putting this here hoping other people don’t fall for this.
