Way I figure, FNC yearly with the Aspire but I dont spend enough on it to get the $30K one. FNC at $15K with Surpass and we would get that.
Would lose the $200 semi annual resort credit. The rest of it isnt a big hill of beans.
Also, Diamond vs Gold doesnt seem to mean a ton anymore AND we are mostly domestic travelers where that fact is emphasized.
Anytime you're not getting positive value from any annual fee card, you should look toward alternatives, product changes, and account closures. I always like to preserve account credit history rather than outright canceling, and downgrading to the Surpass would do that.
The Surpass has better benefits and multipliers than the no-fee card and it's easy to come out ahead if you can utilize some or all of the $50.00 quarterly credits and earn the annual free night for $15,000 spend. It's a good option in your case.
In my situation, my big expenses only accept Mastercard/Visa, so I would never qualify for the $15,000 free night. I could, however, easily use 3 or 4 of the Hilton quarterly credits, so the Surpass is a solid option if I ever decide to downgrade my Aspires.
