Abu Dhabi Layover on Etihad Flight with AA Award Travel
Trying to book award travel from Lisbon to Kuala Lumpur (r/t). All flights offered are via Etihad Airways, with stops in Abu Dhabi.

I wouldn’t mind a two day stay in Abu Dabai, and Etihad (as a state airline) would normally oblige. But how do I make this happen on AA award travel? I'm stingy with my miles, so would rather not book multi-cities. Should I just book this paid, directly with Etihad, to get an easy extended layover?
