Well if the Chase ticket is an underlying cash ticket, you likely won't be able to do that as two one-ways without a significant cost penalty.
98% of the time there will be no issue being on separate reservations. I think UA is generally good about extending elite benefits to companions on separate reservations, if that's of concern here.
