Solution you may be able to use - book both your outbound flights from your miles and your return from her Chase URs. Then you'll both be on the same PNR in each direction, though you'll have different PNRs for outbound and return. That's of small consequence though, because at least for UA points you can refund them to your account for free. Chase URs you're at risk any way you do it.
Problem frequently encountered, though, is that cash one-ways TATL can be significantly more expensive than round-trips.
