Award ticket: turning a transfer into a stopover once at CDG?
Here is a tricky problem: I booked a long-haul award ticket via CDG to ZRH. My stop in CDG is approximately 11 hours, which is what I wanted to go home and get some things and see some people before flying on to ZRH in the evening of that same day. The award was less expensive all the way to ZRH than only to CDG, so it’s a good deal.
Now plans have changed, I want to stay in Paris longer, around 2 days. I cannot book that online. If I call, they will have to check availability for the entire itinerary, and there isn’t any more availability for the long haul sector.
So now I am left with two options:
1) fly to CDG, exit the airport (as planned), and then simply forfeit the connecting flight in the evening of that same day
2) fly to CDG, exit the airport (as planned), and then call AF to ask to change the connecting flight. I.e. change the transfer into a stopover.
For that, what I’d need to know is (i) whether stopovers are possible on oneways and (ii) how they price those oneways with stopovers, when the full trip is less expensive than each leg booked individually.
I did ask that question - in less clear terms because the situation wasn’t as clear then - in the FB FAQ but didn’t get any responses, so apologies for posting this again.
