My YYZ - DXB is a longer flight than DXB - BKK.. so I should get 1st luggage free? But if its for total itinerary then AC is no longer the significant carrier so I don't get the luggage.

To add even MORE CONFUSION...

My friend also booked similar flight to me, same economy rewards via aeroplan

YYZ - KIX - 0 luggage allowance ( but has the aeroplan credit card so 1st pc is free )
KIX - DXB w/Emirates - his booking shows free baggage on Emirates website
DXB - KUL(layover) - BKK w/ Emirates / TG - Both bookings also show free baggage
BKK - ICN (layover) - YYZ w/ TG - shows 2 baggage free

I made him check with each carrier because I got conflicting results , whereas his all show free baggage.
What does your ticket say? Always refer back to the ticket (and take a copy with you for the non-AC check-in). See post #7 https://www.flyertalk.com/forum/35195428-post7.html
