I did a one-day local rental of a U-Haul cargo van recently here in Upstate New York, and the CDW charge was around $13 or $14 for 24 hours. I thought that that was reasonable.
If you can get by with a pickup truck rather than a van, I
think that that type of truck
is covered.
Edited to add: But if you rent a pickup truck, it might have to be rented from a rental-car company -- not U-Haul -- to be covered.
