I would do this by instead of segregating a entire area, I segregate the gate that has the US departure. When it leaves, just take down the immigration and customs area and move it to the next gate that is having a US departure.
Today LHR has 102 flights to the US operating out of three separate terminals over the course of 13 hours. So an average of eight an hour (and in some hours it’s many more - between 1200 & 1300 there are 16).
So operationally your cunning plan is a non-starter.
