Asunción is a pleasant enough city. I had come by bus through the Chaco after a couple of weeks of semi-roughing it in Bolivia, so the city seemed like a paradise to me at that point. The botanic gardens were quite lovely. Some nice museums and historic sites. I really loved the Jesuit ruins at Trinidad and Jesús.
It's a lot easier to turn on the charm after a flight in J on AA than after slogging a bus trip through the Chaco.
I haven't flown to ASU since pre-COVID. I remember the airport having a Paraguayan harp player who serenaded departing passengers. There was usually only one flight departing at a time -- it's kind of a sleepy airport -- so after one flight departed, the musician moved and got set up for the next flight at a different gate.
