So, in summary: the GOH awards as well as free night certificates can be booked for other people over the phone and they will be returned to your account if cancelled. (I’m assuming they haven’t changed that about the free night certificates from last year).
However, the SUAs and Club certificates must be transferred before they are applied (cannot be booked over the phone for a third party) and thus are not refundable to the original member’s account if cancelled.
I’m hoping that they change the latter. It really makes booking far in advance impractical if you are gifting to infrequent travelers, or those who don’t have a WOH account.
I would say (or think) for 95% of 60+ Night Globalists gifting something like a Suite Award would only be done either for a very special occasion for a Friend/Family Member such as a Wedding/Anniversary or possibly a birthday OR if it’s close to the expiration and you don’t believe you’ll use it by the expire date. Any other cases I’d say Globalists would just do a Guest of Honor booking.
Which both cases would be fine for a transfer, and looking at those cases I wouldn’t need it to be given back to me. So I don’t foresee any reason to create a new policy. If it’s outside of those things don’t gift one, just use Guest of Honor.
As for Club Awards don’t really want or need them refunded. After February of Next year no Globalist should even have them in their account anymore so nothing to worry about. I currently have 8 none of which will be used…
Also, you can’t gift to someone without a WOH account, not even a GOH, Hyatt now makes either you or them create an account for the recipient so they can redeem Awards now.
