That’s a false choice. Alaska can both fly safe aircraft and provide compensation for cancelled flights. You can be sure that Alaska will be seeking compensation from Boeing if this turns out to be their fault. There is no reason passengers should not also be compensated.
Im not saying travelers or Alaska don’t deserve compensation I’m just saying that minor inconveniences like a costly hotel or a long overnight are minor blips compared to being sucked out of a plane or hurtled into the ground at 600mph
