I think this is how the thread diverted originally! In no way was I complaining about having to do it, but it’s an unusual request in 2024 so it makes sense for some of us to merely be curious.
From a few posts here it seems it’s just an out of date policy coupled with just covering the minute chance that there could be an issue when landing with low visibility.
