Stayed here recently as I needed to be in the area and it was cheap. I'd always heard bad things about this hotel so my expectations were extremely low but I was actually pleasantly surprised. I should be clear, it is still not a great hotel ... but slightly better than very low expectations, which were already adjusted for the lower end of the NYC hotel market. In particular, the property was in a better state of repair than I had been expecting, and felt like maybe there has been a refresh of carpets and wall finishes at some point since it opened.

I was upgraded to a suite which was nice, but I had to ask specifically at check-in -- the agent had clearly been ready to give me a standard room before I asked, even after proactively offering late checkout for my titanium status. Still, he didn't cause any issues when I did ask, and the extra space was nice to have. The suites are on the low floors (they are the rooms that stick out from the facade in a stair-step fashion) and kind of Embassy Suites style, with an interior sitting area and the bathroom between that and the bed. There is no door between the sitting area and the bedroom, but it's a decent amount of space for NYC. I did feel like the air circulation in the suite was a bit odd, and woke up in the middle of the night feeling like the room was stuffier than I'd like.

The Club lounge is open for breakfast, with a very modest selection. The rest of the day there are self-service sodas and packaged snacks (nuts, pretzels, Rice Krispie treats and Nutty Buddy-type bars, that I saw). No evening service in the lounge. There was also a comical service failure as the lounge agent told me I needed to present a coupon for breakfast, and I went down to the front desk to get one and he said to go back and tell the agent they were out ... not sure why I needed to play messenger there.

Fitness center is on the second floor next to the club and has standard equipment for a Sheraton but is generously sized for NYC, and indeed more spacious even than some Sheraton fitness centers I've seen in suburban settings.

Location is decent if you want to be in that part of Brooklyn, with lots of subway options within a few blocks. There has been tons of construction in the area over the past decade but the immediate area around the hotel is probably reaching a more stable point, and a new park is opening across the street from the hotel soon which the street-facing rooms will look out onto. It's just a small half-block park but still a nicer view than you get from many NYC hotel rooms.

I don't know that I would pay much of a premium vs. the Aloft next door, but the market seems to agree as the Sheraton used to try to charge more and prices for the two are often pretty similar. The Marriott nearby is slightly older but with materially bigger standard rooms, but it also sometimes tries to charge dramatically more, which IMO is unlikely to be worth the difference.
