This is quite normal. The "destination fee" is entirely up to the hotel's ways of working, and some rates have it - most of the public rates - and some don't. Most of my corporate rates do not have this sort of supplement, it's part of the negotiations (as in "do you want our business or do you not?"). And as is well known it's not part of full redemption stays, or at least it should not be so. You can sometimes find travel agency rates which specifically include or exclude the Destination Fee, along with quite a few rates where it is ambiguous. I imagine this is part of the reason for legislating for greater clarity on the display and deployment of nett rates. If the experience of Europe is anything to go by, as soon as that requirement for clarity becomes watertight these surcharges will melt away.
Thanks for the reply! So if I understand you correctly, I would not be charged the 30+USD/night as it is not displayed in the total cost? Looking at other options it seems taht NYC HW is a corporate discount code so I might get lucky. I just don't want to end up checking out and having to dispute any hidden fees that weren't there at time of booking.
