I don't know how much this sort of information can be shared, but BA does plan ahead which plane will operate which route and, by far and large, sticks to that plan. The time horizon is normally the next IATA season from the one we're currently in (so S24 in this case), though the last 2 years have been challenging. In addition to the stop-and-start nature of the post-Covid world we've had refurbishments, delays in deliveries and delays in refurbishments, mostly triggered by third parties.
That said, the 77G are gradually drawing down and their last intended month of presence in BA's fleet - i.e. the time when the last of them will go to CWL for a retrofit - is May 2024. Right now there's just 3 77Gs, to my reckoning, and they operate between 40 and 60 return flights per month. In January you'll find them mostly on the 213 to BOS, 43 to CPT, 195 to IAH, 281 & 283 to LAX, which is where you can find them now. The reality is that those flights are full as are most other flights with other plane types.
Thank you for this response - was just curious. Was aware that BA planned on which aircraft type would be operating for each IATA season, but wasn't sure whether that went down to specific aircraft and thought that may be more fluid. From flying QR, it seems that they plan the actual aircraft maybe days in advance, which makes the equipment swaps more regular than what we see on BA.
I know a couple of the CS 777G's are still out of action at the moment and i'm sure once G-STBO returns from Cardiff then one of the remaining 3 will head there for a refit.
