Just on this, do you need to have enough points (and cash if split) to essentially rebook the booking first? Assume the initial booking is then refunded back to you.

Or can you update the booking and just get the excess points back?

Sorry if that’s a basic question. I always check full cash bookings and change them frequently but I never think to check points or points + cash bookings.
