I originally got my ck status six or seven years ago off-cycle in July of a year. It was unexpected At the time (some mid year off cycle review, I guess). I was then renewed at the normal time in feb/march of the next year. So they used to align to the normal year (at least in my case), but no idea if they still do it that way.
