We stayed two nights: one on points and another on an expiring certificate that we had to burn. This caused whole lots of problems since you cannot upgrade the certificate stay with suite upgrades. It was also our anniversary. The first night they were sold out so we only got upgraded from 1 king bed with balcony to 1 king bed harbor view. We would have honestly preferred the balcony room but they no longer had it by the time we checked in. The hotel looks very nice and we loved the decor but you can already start seeing wear and tear/poor construction quality e.g., window in our room was not opening and it took maintenance good 20 minutes to fix it. Even worse when we went to the toilet it was not cleaned with human (I assume) hair inside (I'll spare you the pictures). After this we took a pass and just went for a walk for over an hour and asked for the room to be cleaned again. At this level of property, I'd expect that someone checks if window opens and if toilet is cleaned before releasing it to guests. To be fair recovery was satisfactory. Although they could not give us another room, they gave us 100 NZD property credit which we used for cocktails (these were yummy). This was handled by front desk agent who was very apologetic. The manager that was in the hotel did not care to talk to us - apparently he was on call - either at the time when this happened or later during our stay. Given the level of f-up and the fact that my wife clocked 99 nights at Hyatt this year I'd expect the manager to approach us. This happened for much lesser reasons at other high end properties we stayed at. It was also our anniversary so they gave us a bottle of nice sparking wine and some pastry. Breakfast is comped and is of good quality. You can get buffet and one item off the menu. Valet was comped since we were on points and it was very efficient. This was our first time in Auckland but it seems you need to have a car to do a bit of sightseeing. Late checkout was pro-actively offered and granted. Location is very good. Overall, we'd probably return given that prices are not too high.
