Bumped from sitting together to across the aisle, despite pairs available

Many months ago I booked LGW-MLA-LGW in CE for me and my partner. At the time I was silver, and chose seats 2AC outbound, 2DF inbound. Outbound we've kept 2AC the whole time, but we lost 2DF soon after I dropped to Bronze. I saw we'd been moved to row 5 but didn't notice the specific seats, since I wasn't prepared to pay to move I figured I'd just wait until T-7.

Well, today was T-7 so I finally went to MMB and discovered we've been moved a pair of aisle seats across from one another, despite most of the cabin being available! It hardly matters (especially as I've moved us back together), but I'm just wondering why would this happen? I only got one email about seat changes, which said we'd been moved for "operational reasons". Both of us have our BAEC seating preference set to window.

Here's a screen grab of the seat choice, just before I moved us:

[Mods, feel free to move this into an appropriate thread, I searched and found nothing that seemed to match]
