I'd like to to fly from BOS -> JFK with no bags, but then check a bag on the international flight. I will be picking up the bag that I have previously packed from a family member's home (where I will also spend the entire layover). Would I have any issues checking in a bag during a layover when there was no bag checked on the first leg of the trip?
Also, if I were to check a bag on the first leg (BOS->JFK), would it be short-checked so I can pick it up and recheck later?
Thanks!
Followup question:
I'm still playing around with flight options and there's a flight that is BOS -> LGA (change of airport on 10 hour layover) JFK -> international. Is it safe to assume that any checked baggage would need be picked up at LGA and rechecked at JFK? Or would they check it through?
I know that these LGA/JFK flights are discouraged due to the pain of getting from one airport to another, but I know my way around NYC and am not concerned about it (especially since I have 10 hours to do it).
