A very very general rule is that the longest leg determines your baggage allowance. So even if your EDI-LHR was in Y, you would get J baggage allowance as you connect straight onto LHR-IAH.
Thank you. I scoured the 'bagagge essentials' page and for what I imagine is a fairly common scenario I can't find any wording to cover it and as I say the ticket itself is somewhat misleading thus sowed the seeds of doubt.
