I just completed a LAX-CDG-MAD-CDG-LAX trip in F this last week. I have taken this trip 5 times in the last 14 months and this is my observation on the current situation. The AF FIRST product is definately improving. The LAX-CDG route in the winter uses the 747 which has the old seats which are quite comfortable but not as nice as the new concept seats. On both transatlantic segments the FA'S were wonderful. The inflight entertainment has impproved with more offerings than before. The food service was just fine for a first trip across the pond. The new china pattern is nice and the cheese course had over 8 different offerings. The desserts were tasty as were the petit-fours. The wines were excellent. AF uses Delta as the ground agents in LAX and they were quite nice with a very speedy check-in. The lounge is the Crown Room wich is quite plain. The F lounge in CDG 2F is quite small with only modest wines and spirits. There are no decent snacks except for pre-packaged cookies, crackers etc.
All in all, AF is on par with BA, and LH across the atlantic. While not up to the highest standards like CX or SQ in the Pacific, you will have a very comfortable and enjoyable experience on AF.
HAPPY TRAVELS.
