Question 2 companion vouchers for 3 people. How to make it work

Scenario:

I have 2 BA Amex Companion Vouchers which in theory can be used for either ( a) two people travelling for the Avios cost of one, or (b) a single person to travel for 50% of the Avios cost. If I try to book using both vouchers on a single booking and select 3 seats for me, my partner, and my son (i.e. I want one voucher to cover option (a) and other the cover option (b)) the system won't let me and says I have to choose 2 people per voucher. However, if I try two separate bookings with two people on one and one person on the other it is perfectly happy for me to do that using the same vouchers. However, since they are both my vouchers I can’t be a named passenger on both bookings. Has anyone else encountered this as I'm sure I could previously select 3 seats for 2 vouchers
