Mgallery / St Moritz will be a better hotel.
(Have not stayed for a few years... but live in Queenstown, and often have friends and clients staying there, and have visited and eaten there many times. Sofitel does not have the best reputation).
In August 2022 we stayed at the Sofitel. Good central location, but the expensive upper floor room faced out to street level at the back, and onto the busy noisy street at the front. The promised view of the Remarkables was a joke. The lounge was small and crowded.
August last year it was the MGallery. Brilliant big suite on an upper floor, great view. Good food in the restaurant. No lounge. Main negative was the steep climb up the road.
Platinum both stays, now Diamond. Well treated at both.
In future definitely the MGallery/St Moritz.
