Just to follow up on this. Received an email from AK advising the process a couple days prior to the flight:
Dropping off luggage at counter W2/W3 worked just fine, but when we got to immigration, counters 6 and 7 were closed (APEC lanes). Only a small handful of counters were open, and nobody was waiting, so we went through the regular lanes without a wait. So I can’t say anything about this option, other that it certainly has the potential to make KLIA2 immigration more bearable during busy times, IF the lanes are actually open.
