With Pet in Cabin and Service Animals as the only options to transport a pet on DL, more folks are going the way of fake Service Animals to get their larger dogs on the plane. As mentioned above there is considerable liability with transporting live animals in the cargo hold. Several die each year during transport. Occasionally one gets loose and injured or lost. If there are travel disruptions the airline luggage personnel are responsible for the care and feeding until they can be delivered to the destination. Not an attractive situation for the airlines to find themselves in, especially if the media finds out and these days social media could be worse.
