This specific pop up is for a YYZ-ORD-LAX-HNL booking
as Basic Economy in K class for YYZ-ORD-LAX and N class for LAX-HNL.
BUT, I get the same pop up message when I try just YYZ-LAX as a one-way, single flight, booking in K (still as BE).
Do we think this is an ex-Canada specific dispensation? And why? There is nothing on the UA website that I know of that differentiates BE entitlements other than for flights to South America, or International Transatlantic/Transpacific.
So the inconsistency "thickens"...
The pop-up to be acknowledged is clear that:
(1) "[Non-status passenger [b]may]
bring a full-sized carry-on bag on board" [my emphasis]
(2) as per footnote #2,
"Your carry-on bag should fit in the overhead bin. The maximum dimensions for a carry-on bag are 9 inches x 14 inches x 22 inches (22 centimeters x 35 centimeters x 56 centimeters). This includes handles and wheels."
