While traveling abroad are you trying to call back to the US or to other international phone numbers? Because, WiFi calling while abroad on T-Mobile is FREE to the US (or your "home area" if on applicable plan). So for my plan while I'm abroad, all WiFi calling for me to the US, Canada and Mexico is free. On cellular its .25¢ per minute.
