BA won't check AU entry at LHR if BA0011 to SIN, BA0015 to SYD

Has anyone ended up on BA0011 LHR-SIN then BA0015 SIN-SYD on the same booking ref., rather than BA0015 the whole way? The only difference is a change of plane and longer in the lounge but BA at LHR T5 First has just told me that the AU entry doc. check can only be done in SIN, even if I have boarding passes for both legs. Is it having 2 BPs rather than 1 that makes the difference?
