You're not going to make meaningful status on any airline with 6 domestic RTs and one international J per year. I'd suggest you just pick the flights that work best for you (i.e, go for free agent).
As to the broader question of AS v. UA at SFO, it's a challenge to make AS work due to the very limited flight options compared to UA. It's better when you add AA into the mix. As for airline quality, I've really come to dislike flying UA (12 year 1K), whereas AS is by far my favorite domestic airline.
