Park Hyatt NYE 2024 stay review

Really amazing hotel. I personally didn’t agree with the prior comments that the hotel is showing its age (3 years!), the room I got felt brand new. I’m an FHR booking with no Hyatt status FYI. I was a bit bummed I didn’t get an upgrade. I booked the harbor view with balcony king, hoping to get upgraded to a rooftop or suite (via FHR). They said they were fully booked and I did check a few hours later and there were no higher rooms available so I guess they weren’t lying. The rates fluctuated extremely, when I first booked (6 weeks in advance) it was $800+ for a base room, I checked every week and then saw the room I got was around $400 (highs room level, canceled and rebooked obviously). The common areas are nice and new but no amazing WOW factor! The room is great though, truly felt modern and lux, especially the bathroom. It looks bigger and newer than the photos online. They switched the bath products to Le Labo (“designed for PH Auckland”) I know some older reviews were complaining about the rando Aussie brand they used to have. My complaints: there is NO way to order room service online/mobile/QR code! ...! Even random hotels I stayed at in Wellington and rotorua had that. Instead, I was forced to call on the hotel phone while my partner was sleeping and wake him up, just to order a room service latte. The latte tasted like nespresso but I’m choosing to believe a hotel of this caliber would never serve that via room service. So archaic. Also, no USB-C ports! Come on, this is a 2020/2021 hotel they should have this. I couldn’t charge my phone and there were also no international plugs so my partner and I had to share one. Breakfast at Onemata was good (nothing to write home about, but solidly good. It was free but if I stayed here for more than 2 days I would find breakfast elsewhere). Welcome gift was crostini and local goat cheese, which was ridiculously delicious although they did not nearly give enough crostini for it. We opted for the 4pm late checkout since our flight was at 10:30pm. I was hoping that the valet fee would be waived for FHR like I’ve experienced before at other hotels but it wasnt. For comparison I booked the grand Hyatt Tokyo, checked-in, immediately checked-out (after seeing the age/condition of the hotel), and went to FS otemachi. So this is the first quality Hyatt I’ve stayed at (outside of Andaz). I’m normally a FS girl but being in Auckland, I booked this hotel. The spa was booked during my stay so I struggled to spend the credit and went to the bar before my flight. I would not hesitate to book again though, best of Auckland with very modern rooms and especially bathrooms. We were shocked by the harbour outside and the 8 figure+ yachts there! Never seen so many expensive boats in my life not even Miami, NYC or LA. I was super surprised by this and so was my boyfriend
