So go ahead and get three seats together now, and I would pay for main cabin extra to get the better room for my family on such a long flight, especially with a toddler.
This is a no brainer, make the trip as enjoyable as possible for your family at what is a minimal cost.

I couldn't disagree more. The toddler will definitely end up next to one of the parents (who won't be stuck in a middle seat, obviously) and the other parent might have to sit apart from them, but we're only talking about ~11 hours.
