I will be visiting Mainland China for the first time next year and was curious what to expect when it comes to quality of luxury hotels (specifically Shanghai and Beijing)? Rates for high-end hotels seem very low, but I do not know if this is due to the bad economy & lack of international visitors or is it due to lower standards? How does it compare to pre-COVID Hong Kong?

I am pretty sure I cannot go wrong with Peninsula and Mandarin Oriental, but I was also curious to try out some of the St. Regis, Ritz-Carlton’s and Waldorf Astorias perhaps.
