So, this may actually throw a wrench in your plans. UA may only be willing to check your bags to GUM, because it may consider that an overnight stay. (In general, if a flight arrives between midnight and 2 AM, UA assumes that passengers will want to get their belongings and go to a hotel). If they're checked through, you wouldn't need to pick them up, but...
