IMO you answered your own question. The additional benefits of EP over PP are relevant only when you're flying: higher upgrade priority, higher boarding priority, higher call center priority, more miles and LPs from airfare spend, and a free snack if you're in the main cabin. That's really it.

However, I would agree that it's worth making the effort to get up to the 175K reward level.
