Instead, I got a generous upgrade to a tranquil section with awe-inspiring views, and the onsite food, while expensive, was excellent. Everything exceeded my expectation.....
This is good to hear, as I have a soft spot for this hotel. It was the source of my joining FT and becoming "points conscious". In 2002 we stayed using the GLON award, which as I recall was 5 nights for 100K points, which I achieved via Amex card signup. It was a great trip with the kids and I have positive memories. Good to see it still brings a little value in this inflated environment.
