Don't want to go too way off topic from the transportation to Conrad Tokyo, but these are related to workers shortage Japan is experiencing currently. Bus drivers shortage is causing many bus companies operating local service to reduce service and cut service. It is affecting people use local bus service for commuting. Bus driver was never highly thought job for young generation in Japan. Before pandemic average age of bus drivers are getting old, many decided to retire during the pandemic and never returned to work.
Taxi is experiencing the same situation in Japan. The trade group of taxi companies in Japan said currently there are 20% less taxi drivers in Japan compared with pre-pandemic. This is also affecting airlines. Many people work in airline business moved on to jobs in different industry and did not return to airline industry after the pandemic. NRT received request for 152 additional new flights per week this year, NRT could accommodate all request from departure/landing slot prospective. But only 101 additional flights weekly have took place due to ground handling shortage. For example, Aero K (new South Korean LLC) started service this year. Their initial plane was twice daily to NRT but could not secure ground handling at NRT and started as once daily flight on Aug. 3 this year. In Oct. this year Aero K was able to operate NRT twine daily.
Hotels in Japan are experiencing the same situation, too. What making the hotel situation worse in Japan is from this forum we know there are many new (especially high end) hotels being constructed in Japan. There has been recruiting war especially among experienced workers where good workers are recruited into those new hotels and many hotels are having difficult time retaining experienced workers.
