I'll share my experiences - no issues with a US-based Visa and MC (I loaded both on Alipay) on Alipay - I also set up Weixin but never used it. The MC, which was my default, was declined once for a Metro transaction, so Alipay automatically tried the Visa, which worked. I approved the transaction with my bank and subsequent metro transactions worked on the MC. I used the DiDi mini-app and the Shanghai Metro QR code in Alipay the whole time. There were no transaction fees for any of my purchases. I never had a balance but did have my passport verified through Alipay. I set it up with a US phone number while I was in Korea.
I had no issue using my physical US credit cards at various Starbucks and Shake Shack locations as well as my hotels in Shanghai.
When using WX and AP, I'm assuming all transactions get 1x since they're processing it? No way to get extra points via the category accelerator?
Mind sharing the steps you took to set up WX and AP? I want to add my CSR to it.
I'm assuming that since there is a Shanghai subway QR code, then you didn't buy a transit card? Is it possible to use WX to pay for the subway?
Just learned that there is now a Shake Shack in Shanghai. In Asia, I've only been to the ones in Singapore and Hong Kong.
