As mentioned, you may be hard pressed to find two F tickets from any airport at the 331 day mark. You will be more likely to find 2 business seats. You can book these, and if F shows up later, you can hold them, then call in to cancel your original business tickets (your miles will be redeposited). Then call in to ticket the F tickets you have on hold. Note this may require last minute travel changes, as F can open up within 2 weeks of travel…. But it may be on a different flight, so you may need to now go out of DFW vs. ORD, etc, and rearrange your positioning flight(s).
In an ideal world, I would grab 2 business seats on a route that has first class and: 1. switch to first class, likely one person at a time, if/when inventory is released, 2. hope that there aren't any substitutions to a/c without F.
Expecting to get F for two people in both directions is extremely, for lack of a better word, ambitious, but if each person had a chance to try F in one direction, that would be a good result in my book (I realize this would entail being separated from the companion; worth it IMO because the product is substantially better than business).
