That would be my argument, too. Two non-elites flying the same route on AS and HA respectively would have earned the same number of miles for the flight, and if they paid with their respective airline credit card, they would have both earned 3X miles. It would be hard to explain to Hawaiian loyalists that their miles are worth less based on the earnings per dollar and BIS mile. Now, perhaps one could say that on the redemption side AS miles are worth more (looking at various blogger valuations, that
seems to be the consensus), but that would be a more tricky argument to make to customers you want to retain, I think. And the AS valuation of miles may very well go down significantly come Spring 2024.
