My thoughts after the first full year of milestone rewards
In first place, drum roll - 2 year free lounge pass. We chose it in early Jan 23 and it expires end Dec 24. We have used it during 12 separate stays, the longest was seven nights at IC Buenos Aires and the shortest was one night at ICPL London. Our stay pattern is looking similar for 2024. This has saved us a small fortune as we would have paid for club lounge access on most stays. But, our hopes of getting Royal Ambassador status back are quickly fading as we spend less per night.
Nice to have but not essential - confirmed suite upgrades. We used both for a five+ night stay, our strategy being number of nights rather than cost of the upgrade. We used them in Bangkok and Buenos Aires. The latter let us keep the suite for the last two nights of our week long holiday. However, we are leisure travellers and spend very little time in the room as we are busy seeing the sights, stuffing our fat faces and drinking ourselves silly in the club lounge etc. In that respect, the upgrades are somewhat wasted.
Meh - F&B vouchers. We used them all and none expired but if we hadn’t had them we probably wouldn’t have chosen to eat at the hotels.
We didn’t opt for any extra points as we always seem to earn plenty from stays and promotions. We earned enough to book 17 reward nights in 2023.
Does anyone have different rankings?
