The latter proved to be quite easy, but they told me that the only way to add another JL segment on the front end was to cancel and start over. I'm not sure whether or not they were pulling my chain because I bowed out at that point and simply paid $160 for a PVG-HND flight on China Eastern. Since BKK-HND costs much more than $160 if you want a nonstop, you might want to press on a little harder. However, I'd be really leery about the possibility of disturbing the booking on JL's flagship route/product (that's 80% of the battle).
