What happens to flights where I selected C+ seat after booking as Platinum, but flights occur after I drop to Gold next year?

Other threads from 6+ years seem to indicate I keep the upgrade, but also that people had issues checking in (not sure if they lost status completely, or just dropped to Gold which is still eligible for upgrades, just not at booking).
