It's inappropriate to leave luggage anywhere inside the airport unless there's express permission to do so regardless of whether there are signs or not. It would have been far safer to leave it at the 'left luggage' store next to M&S. If you had asked any of the lounge attendants they would almost certainly have told you not to leave it there. If you didn't ask anyone you were putting airport operations at risk.
