I think this answers a question I had (and came to these older posts to see if anyone else addressed it already):

I qualified for a Plat ISP (via Hyatt match) in late Sept, so I am in Phase 1. I am at nearly 50k LP for this phase, so I have passed the Plat Pro threshold. It looks likely that I can get to 67k in this phase (ExPlat), but I am not sure that it's realistic that I will also be able to reach ExPlat for Phase 2 and Phase 3 with my travel plans and spend pattern. But reaching Plat Pro levels seems realistic. If I reach 67k (ExPlat) in Phase 1, I would only need 17k in Phase 2 (2*42 - 67) and 42k in Phase 3, right?

So what I want to confirm is that if I "overshoot" now and reach ExPlat in Phase 1, I could safely drop down to Plat Pro at the end of Phase 2 (i.e., I would not drop down all the way to where I started, Plat). And if I drop to Plat Pro at the end of Phase 2, that's also the max I can reach in Phase 3. So basically no downside to "packing on as much as you can in Phase 1 and try and keep it up in Phase 2" (as you put it).
