I manage to live without Google services during the day when I'm not on a wifi that permits vpn. Surprisingly, Whatsapp seems to have some limited functionality (no pictures, occasional delayed messages). The rest I manage on Weixin and local applis. Microsoft services are less affected so I use that for email and search and maps, although I also downloaded some maps in advance.
