As for int'l flights -- there are also a lot of narrowbody flights to Mexico and near South America. They will depart from wherever at DFW. No need to squeeze a domestic incoming plane into D just for a int'l departure (and they mostly don't provide anyone with FL access anyhow, which I think is bull hockey).
Many Mexico flights are on regional jets. These will leave from anywhere in the regional terminal (B) and then, when they return, park at B1 through B3, which have a connected walkway to customs and immigration in D.
