This was the first time I have flown BA long haul since February 2020 (BA fly to so few interesting destinations these days that most of my flights since COVID have been with Turkish Airlines). It was also my first time in the Club Suite.

The seat was very good - I thought the door would be a gimmick but it does help cut some of the light and noise from the aisle. I also liked that the pillow is quite big and plush (I think this is one of the better pillows in Business Class). The crew in both directions were excellent. The food choices and quality was good (nowhere near as good as Turkish Airlines though). I found the entertainment system a bit slow when loading listings of the different programs / films but the overall selection was much better than last time I flew BA and I had no need to watch the programs I had loaded onto my iPad before the flight. I thought the choice of documentaries was however poor compared to what Turkish Airlines offer.

My biggest complaint Is the timing of the service. On the outbound flight lunch is served after take-off which seems sensible. You then go for about 9hrs with no food (skipping over dinner) as the next meal is around 2hrs before landing in Tokyo. This is around 23:30 London time - who wants to eat at that time? In my opinion the second meal should service should have been around 6hrs into the flight (which would be dinner time in London) with nothing served prior to landing so you could then sleep until 20 minutes before landing in Tokyo.

Similarly on the return lunch is served after take-off. The next meal is served around 2hrs before arriving in London which is around 02:00 Tokyo time. Again I think it should be served around 6hrs into the flight (so dinner time in Tokyo) with nothing served later allowing you to sleep until just before landing.

I found in both directions I was hungry and awake when there was no meal service (and I don’t think much of the Club Kitchen offering) and then asleep and woken by the meal service and an odd time. I’ve noticed on previous flights with Asiana and Garuda they do serve a main meal in the middle of the flight with nothing before landing if that aligns better with meal times at the departure country - and of course this isn’t an issue with airlines which offer dine on demand.

In any case I’m nit-picking a bit here. I was quite happy with the flights.

Does anyone know why the BA flights take a more southerly routing over Northern Canada / Greenland that JAL and several European carriers?
BA unwittingly finds itself in the uncharted territory of ULH with these flights and doesn’t know quite what to do, food-wise. Give the length of the sectors there should really be a mid-flight snack (heaven forbid dine on demand!) which is much more substantial than what the Club Kitchen provides. Heck, even IB does a mid-flight toastie on routes way shorter than this.
