Cabify (and more generally getting around by taxi) was one of the most frustrating aspects of our recent visit to Buenos Aires.
- As mentioned earlier in the thread, you cannot create an account unless you have a local mobile number in the region. It says it is sending you a code by SMS but that is not delivered (we tried both US and UK phones). I complained to their help desk and just got sent around in circles over and over again with no real assistance at all
- So then we went and got a local mobile number, which involved 30 minutes in a phone shop while they registered us through an incredibly complex process; then we were able to use Cabify
- Cabify does a credit card hold to verify the account then It looks ok .... but ...
- The first time we came to make an actual booking, it blocked our account with a "48 hour" turnaround time to fix it -- and requested ID docs etc
- It was fixed a day later. So then we made a successful booking out into the suburbs ... but ...
- We got stranded there because it then blocked our account a second time, again asking for ID docs and quoting 48 hours to fix.
At this point we gave up and took the bus (US $0.05) which was a very straightforward experience as we had already purchased a SUBE card.
For transport to the airport we used Tienda Leon who were OK on one journey; on another they called us to say they had no cars available.
Cabify are absolutely not fit for purpose, for foreign travellers. Make sure you prepare for alternative options.
So you created an account, inputting credit card info, etc. using a "pre-paid" SIM phone number that will eventually go away, then you will have an orphaned account with your personal information in it, that you can longer control/change?
I don't think I would have done that...
